In the vast expanse of Starfield, resource management is essential for survival, crafting, and outpost development. Organic Resources, in particular, can be challenging to acquire, making Greenhouses a valuable asset for players seeking a sustainable solution. This comprehensive guide will delve into the intricacies of Greenhouses in Starfield, helping you master the art of cultivating alien flora for various materials.

Greenhouse Overview

Greenhouses serve as Organic Resource generators, akin to Extractors for Minerals. Once set up and powered, Greenhouses continuously produce a chosen Organic Resource, ensuring a steady supply as long as they remain operational.

Contrary to the misconception that buying from vendors is sufficient, Greenhouses offer a more reliable and efficient source of Organic Resources, making them an essential addition to your Starfield outpost.

How To Unlock Greenhouses

Before diving into Greenhouse construction, players must meet certain prerequisites. To unlock Greenhouses, invest Skill Points in both Botany and Outpost Engineering, and research Horticulture 1 at a Research Lab. Once these criteria are met, Greenhouses will become accessible in the ‘Builders’ Tab of the Outpost Building menu.

To prepare for building Greenhouses, gather the following resources:

  • Mag Pressure Tank: 7
  • Adaptive Frame: 9
  • Tungsten: 9
  • Nutrient: 9
  • Metabolic Agent: 9
  • Usable Skill Points: 2

Ensure that you are on a planet with Flora capable of outpost production, indicated by the ‘Outpost Production Allowed’ tag in the Hand Scanner.

Before establishing your Greenhouse, complete these essential preparatory steps:

  1. Find a planet with Flora suitable for Greenhouse production.
  2. Scan plantlife producing the desired Organic Resource to 100% on the same planet where the Greenhouse will be built.
  3. Gather resources for a Water Extractor, Greenhouse, Outpost, Solid Storage Container, and Power Sources.

Step-By-Step Guide For Setting Up A Greenhouse

Setting up a Greenhouse is straightforward, and the following steps will guide you through the process:

  1. Place the Greenhouse, Water Extractor, Extractor Power Source, Greenhouse Power Source, and Solid Storage Container on the planet’s surface.
  2. Connect the Power Source to the Extractor using the ‘Wire’ input (optional).
  3. Connect the Power Source to the Greenhouse using the ‘Wire’ input (optional).
  4. Establish a connection between the Water Extractor and the Greenhouse using the ‘Create Output Link’ function.
  5. Connect the Greenhouse to the Solid Storage Container using an Output Link.
  6. Approach the console near the Greenhouse entrance to select the Organic Resource you want to produce.

Small Things To Keep In Mind

Here are some additional tips and considerations for successful Greenhouse operation:

  1. If Water Extractors are unavailable on your planet, use a Liquid Storage Container connected to the Greenhouse and manually add water to power it.
  2. Greenhouses can only cultivate plants on the same planet, so choose your building location wisely.
  3. Researching Horticulture 2 unlocks Commercial Greenhouses, which offer improved resource cultivation.
  4. Outpost machinery operates on Universal Time, so consider visiting planets with non-1-to-1 Local Hours to expedite Greenhouse processes.

With this guide, you’ll harness the full potential of Greenhouses in Starfield, ensuring a consistent supply of Organic Resources for your interstellar adventures. Happy cultivating!
