Fortnite is taking a significant step towards becoming a “multi-game ecosystem” and a creative platform by implementing age ratings for all first and third-party content. Epic Games has teamed up with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to enforce this new regulation, which will take effect from November 14, impacting creators on Fortnite.

Creators on Fortnite will be required to complete the IARC content rating questionnaire before submitting their island for publishing and review by Epic moderators. Once the questionnaire is filled out, creators will receive an age-based IARC rating for their content, along with region-specific ratings from IARC-participating rating authorities. These ratings will be automatically applied and prominently displayed before granting access to the content.
It appears that IARC will collaborate with regional ratings boards such as ESRB for North America, PEGI for Europe, ACB for Australia, USK for Germany, and others based on the player’s location. This approach is designed to safeguard both creators and audiences, especially younger players, ensuring that Fortnite experiences align with their comfort levels.
While the regulation officially goes into effect on November 14, the IARC questionnaire will be live starting from October 16. This timeline allows creators to rate their content before the cutoff date. According to the Fortnite Team’s blog post, any experiences left unrated will be delisted on November 14, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the new rule to avoid losing access to the content they’ve created.
