Cyberpunk 2077’s tumultuous journey since its troubled launch in December 2020 has taken a positive turn with the release of the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion. CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, has diligently worked to address issues, bugs, and improve the overall player experience.

Game Director Gabe Amatangelo expressed his unwavering belief in the game and the development team, emphasizing the commitment to rectify past shortcomings. Patch 1.5, released in February 2022, introduced enhancements for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, along with AI improvements, new gear, and character appearance options. Patch 1.6, known as the Edgerunners update, drew inspiration from the anime and introduced additional content such as new gigs, weapons, cross-progression, and an arcade racing game called Roach Race.

Amatangelo highlighted the meticulous planning and progression leading up to the 2.0 update, focusing on addressing gaps in the player experience and refining the game. Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a transformation and is now enjoying renewed popularity, particularly on platforms like Steam.

With these substantial updates, CD Projekt Red is shifting its attention towards the sequel, known as Project Orion, and the next installment in The Witcher series. These future titles are expected to be developed using Unreal Engine 5, marking Cyberpunk 2077 as the final IP created on the Red engine.
