Igor Aleksandrowicz has officially released their retro-inspired FPS game, “Calcium Contract,” on the Steam platform. Priced at $15.99, this unique gaming experience caught my attention when I first tried it in July. It offers a fresh perspective within the FPS subgenre, and I can’t help but compare it to what it might feel like if Duke Nukem 3D were developed by a studio situated in McDonaldsland. The game immerses players in an eccentric and colorful world where a Grim Reaper must confront a remarkably resilient chicken serpent.
What sets “Calcium Contract” apart from many other FPS games is its departure from the norm. Instead of relying on big guns and explosive action, the game equips players with a range of bizarre contraptions that fire unusual projectiles like musical golden bones. The enemies you encounter are equally unconventional, featuring a mix of chickens, cats, and lizards. Aleksandrowicz’s emphasis on “game feel” is evident throughout the gameplay, with numerous small details enhancing your connection with the game world. Notably, the absence of traditional secret-hunting elements keeps the pacing smooth and engaging.
One could argue that “Calcium Contract” doesn’t deliver some of the typical features associated with the FPS genre, such as heavy firepower and intense explosions. While this might disappoint some players, it’s worth noting that the game offers an intensity level on par with more conventionally armed FPS titles. I remain optimistic that it will attract a dedicated following despite these deviations from the norm.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to provide a formal review of the game. However, my earlier preview, which offered insights beyond what was available in the demo, still holds true today. “Calcium Contract” is available for PC on the Steam platform, and I encourage gamers to give it a try and experience its unique charm.
