Penance Effects:
- Launches bolts of Holy Light at either an enemy or an ally, each with distinct effects.
- The first bolt is instant, followed by another cast every second for two seconds, totaling three bolts.
- Enemy Target: Each bolt inflicts substantial Holy Damage.
- Ally Target: Each bolt heals the target for a moderate amount of HP.
Penance stands out as one of the Discipline Priest’s most formidable Runes due to its low cooldown and dual functionality. Whether directed at allies or enemies, Penance unleashes a volley of three bolts, featuring an instant cast and subsequent bolts every second for two seconds. When focused on allies, Penance becomes a potent healing force, mending substantial HP with each connecting bolt. On the flip side, when aimed at enemies, it becomes a formidable source of Holy Damage, delivering impactful blows with each bolt.
How To Get The Penance Rune In WoW SoD

The acquisition of the Penance Rune in the Season of Discovery follows a straightforward process tailored for Priests. Unlike other classes, Priests do not acquire Runes directly but instead learn from Memories. To initiate this learning process, Priests must activate the Meditation buff. Achieving this requires executing a /kneel emote in front of an Altar of the Light, found not only in Capitol Cities but also in most major cities.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Level 2 Quest: At Level 2, Priests receive their first Rune quest, involving finding the “Memory of a Troubled Acolyte.”
- Memory Location:
- Human Priests: Defeat Kobolds to obtain the Memory, then /kneel at the Altar near the Northshire Priest trainer.
- Dwarf Priests: Locate the Memory in a Trogg Camp outside Anvilmar, then /kneel at the Altar within Anvilmar.
- Night Elf Priests: After receiving the Memory, /kneel at the Moonwell in Shadowglen.
- Orcs and Troll Priests: Upon obtaining the Memory, travel to Sen’jin Village (east) and /kneel at the Loa Altar.
- Undead Priests: After getting the Memory, step outside into the graveyard and /kneel when the Chill of the Grave buff is active.
- Activate Meditation: Target the Altar before /kneeling to activate the Meditation buff.
- Learn from Memory: /Kneel at the designated location, and upon obtaining the Meditation buff, learn from the Memory of the Troubled Acolyte.
Post-learning, the Penance Rune becomes accessible in the Rune Engravings menu on the Character screen. Click on the Penance Rune, then engrave it onto your currently-equipped Gloves. Lastly, slot the ability into your hotbar through the spellbook Runes tab.
