A New Adventure Begins
Recently unveiled at the Smite World Championships, I had the chance to experience Smite 2’s pre-alpha. This sequel, still in early development, aims to enhance everything beloved about Smite. My experience involved playing two Conquest matches alongside other press members. We dove into the competitive three-lane setup. Most players, like me, were new to Smite, with experts providing guidance ranging from strategic suggestions to urgent combat tips.

Smite 2 Demo: A Glimpse into Enhanced Gameplay
The demo offered a selection of ten gods from Smite’s original cast, each boasting graphical upgrades and some with altered abilities. I chose Bellona for both games, a character I’m familiar with. Her role as a stance-shifting tank remains largely unchanged, providing a sense of familiarity amidst the new surroundings.
Visual Upgrades and Immersive Battles
Graphically, Smite 2 surpasses its predecessor, despite some early-stage placeholder graphics. The gods’ redesigns and the elaborate environments contribute to an immersive experience. The attention to detail in abilities like Anhur’s Obelisk and Anubis’ spectral hands was particularly impressive. The game captures the essence of a battle among gods, as seen in characters like Ymir and his Ice Wall, and the stealthy ambushes of Loki.
Gameplay Experience Across Platforms
My gameplay experience varied between a mouse/keyboard and a PS5 controller. The transition was initially jarring but demonstrated Smite’s adaptability to console play. Controller responsiveness needs tweaking, particularly in terms of vibration feedback and camera sensitivity, but these should be fine-tuned by launch.
Promising Direction for Smite 2
While it’s too early to gauge Smite 2’s overall advancement over the original, this early build is promising. I’m savoring my temporary status as the world’s top player in Assists in Smite 2, fully expecting avid fans to soon surpass me once they gain access.
