Assist the cursed monk by communing with his deceased granddaughter’s spirit in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Delving into the depths of Grymforge in Baldur’s Gate 3 offers myriad rewards, including the initiation of the Help The Cursed Monk quest upon obtaining a specific amulet amidst the lava-laden environment of Grymforge. However, while the amulet is secured during Act 1, the quest itself culminates at the Temple of Open Hands in Act 3.
Triggering the Help The Cursed Monk Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3
To ignite the Help The Cursed Monk quest, adventurers must acquire the Sentient Amulet within Grymforge. Navigate to the Adamantine Forge and venture westward to coordinates X:-569 Y:228, where a Lava Elemental roams amidst a fiery landscape.
Upon reaching the central platform, where a locked chest resides, players have two options to access its contents: either retrieve the key from a nearby skeleton on the northern platform or utilize lockpicking skills. Claiming the Sentient Amulet initiates a dialogue with the spirit of the cursed monk.
Although monk endeavors to afflict players with laughter, it proves benign, and players can attempt to resist using appropriate skills. The monk’s desire to reunite with his granddaughter, Shirra Clarwen, at the Open Hand Temple is revealed.

Locating Shirra in Wyrm’s Crossing in Baldur’s Gate 3
Upon reaching Wyrm’s Crossing in Act 3, journey to Open Hand Temple adjacent to the Circus of the Last Days. Engage Sister Yannis in dialogue, who is embroiled in a dispute with Detective Valeria, and inquire about Shirra Clarwen. Tragically, Shirra passed away a year prior and now rests in a crypt beneath the temple.
Trace a blood trail to uncover a wooden hatch in the kitchen area. Descend and explore to discover a tomb at coordinates X:6 Y:-1005. Unlock the tomb to encounter Shirra. The cursed monk, seizing his granddaughter’s corpse, presents players with a choice: accept his curse or refuse.
Choosing to decline results in a confrontation with room’s occupants, banishing the cursed monk’s soul and concluding the quest. Conversely, acceptance yields varied rewards but inflicts a permanent decrease in Wisdom.
By succeeding in rolling two Wisdom, Constitution, or Illithid options, players can avert this scenario. Mixing and matching available choices enable players to dispel the laughter while retaining Wisdom, securing Tasha’s Hideous Laughter and the Sentient Amulet (Very Rare), facilitating the casting of Shatter and Ki Restoration (Greater) once per long rest.
