After the final episode of Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, the studio officially announced a second season of the anime. The two-cour anime series premiered on April 2, 2024, in Japan and concluded with its 25th episode on September 24, 2024.

The anime’s official Twitter account shared a fresh visual featuring Holo, adding to the excitement. Takeo Takahashi, who directed the first two seasons, returned as the chief director. Hijiri Sanpei, known for Yuri is My Job!, directed the series, while Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss) composed the music. Animation was handled by Passione. The main cast saw Ami Koshimizu reprise her role as Holo and Jun Fukuyama as Kraft Lawrence.
The original Spice and Wolf light novel series, written by Isuna Hasekura and illustrated by Juu Ayakura, began publication in 2006 under Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko label. By January 2023, the series had released 24 volumes, and Yen Press handled the English translation. The spinoff series, Wolf and Parchment, which focuses on Holo and Lawrence’s daughter, Myuri, began in 2016. By April 2024, it had already reached 10 volumes.
The franchise has also inspired video games, including two dating simulators and recent VR releases. The previous anime adaptations originally aired in 2008 and 2009. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll is currently streaming the 2024 anime worldwide, outside of Japan, where it continues to follow the story of merchant Lawrence and the wise wolf, Holo, as they journey north.
