During Opening Night Live, we were treated to a fresh glimpse of Payday 3’s action-packed storyline.

Earlier this year, Payday 3, a game that had been in production for a while but had faced several obstacles along the way, was finally revealed. Despite everything, the game seems quite promising and is set to officially launch on September 21st. At Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer Starbreeze Studios unveiled a brand-new gameplay trailer to build excitement for the upcoming release.
The video showcased the game’s new mission, in which a team of four infiltrates a storage yard to steal highly secure cooling containers. The mission is intriguing as it appears to be time-sensitive, with the critical period deteriorating over time. Elements such as a throwing knife and the team’s ziplines were demonstrated in the video. Naturally, the covert strategy fails, leading to more of the chaotic, fast-paced action that Payday fans are familiar with.
Even though Payday 3 is still a month and a half away from release, we already knew quite a bit about the game before today’s video. We are aware that the game allows players to negotiate with the police and take hostages when their stealthy approach falters, and that it will be available on Xbox Game Pass on release day. This combination of events is undoubtedly good news for everyone planning to engage in a heist or two next month.
However, Payday 3 does come with one drawback: even if you intend to play the game solo, you will need a constant internet connection. Fans expressed dissatisfaction with this requirement and started canceling their pre-orders in protest, similar to previous games that demanded players to always be online, such as Redfall and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Although there is still time for Starbreeze to reconsider, it seems unlikely given the absence of any mention during today’s announcement.
