Lenovo has officially unveiled the Legion Go, a handheld gaming device that merges elements of the Nintendo Switch and PC gaming, similar to Valve’s Steam Deck. This highly-anticipated announcement came during IFA 2023, following weeks of rumors and leaks.

One of the standout features of the Legion Go is its detachable gamepad, known as the Legion TrueStrike. This unique controller offers a versatile gaming experience with a D-Pad, mouse wheel, ten programmable shoulder buttons, triggers, grip buttons, and two thumbsticks on each controller. Lenovo has addressed concerns about joystick drift by equipping the Legion TrueStrike with Hall Effect joysticks, ensuring durability and precision.

The device boasts an 8.8-inch QHD+ IPS display that supports touchscreen interactions. It is equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and offers M.2 SSD storage options in three configurations: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Additionally, Lenovo has included a MicroSD card slot, allowing users to expand storage by up to 2TB.

Under the hood, the Legion Go runs on an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU and RDNA graphics, offering a powerful gaming experience. It comes preloaded with Windows 11 as its operating system.

One of the most intriguing features of the Legion Go is its FPS mode. In this mode, users can detach the controllers from the screen and utilize a kickstand on the back to prop up the device. The right TrueStrike controller is then attached to a magnetic base with an optical eye, promising enhanced aiming precision and control, akin to a gaming mouse.

Lenovo has set an October release date for the Legion Go, with a starting retail price of $699. This competitive pricing positions the device as an attractive option for gamers seeking a versatile handheld gaming experience that combines the best aspects of console and PC gaming.

In summary, Lenovo’s Legion Go is a highly-anticipated handheld gaming device that offers a unique blend of features, including a detachable controller, powerful hardware, and an innovative FPS mode. With a competitive price point, it is poised to make waves in the gaming community upon its release in October 2023.
