In a video announcement posted on Twitter via the official Final Fantasy account, Yoshida stated, “While Final Fantasy XVI launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, we are aware that many of you have been asking for a PC version. So, allow me to take this opportunity to officially announce that development on a PC version is currently underway.” However, it’s worth noting that this announcement suggests the PC release won’t be happening within this year.

Yoshida also hinted at forthcoming details regarding downloadable content (DLC) and the PC version. He mentioned, “I hope to be able to give you more information on both the upcoming DLC and the PC version before the end of the year, so please stay tuned.” This timeline reaffirms that the PC launch is unlikely before the close of 2023.

The inclusion of DLC in Final Fantasy XVI is itself noteworthy. Square Enix originally had no plans for DLC until fan feedback and strong sales influenced their decision. While the specifics of the DLC remain a mystery, a recent free update introduced alternate character costumes, a new weapon for the main character, and the ability to alter weapon appearances while retaining their stats.

Yoshida had previously acknowledged that optimizing a PC version would require time and resources, emphasizing that it wouldn’t be a quick process. However, he now confirms that it’s officially in the works, putting fans’ desires for a PC version within reach. This announcement follows a previous accidental leak by Square Enix, adding to the anticipation for what may well be one of the standout RPGs of the decade, as indicated by the positive reviews received, particularly for its combat mechanics.
