Players assemble a group of characters, travel across a map, engage with Invaders from various realms, level up, acquire loot, and earn currency.
NetherRealm Studios has finally confirmed a new mode for Mortal Kombat 1 called “Invasions.” This mode turns out to be a board game-inspired framework where players assemble a crew and embark on an adventure to combat Invaders from other dimensions, as revealed in a recent PlayStation Blog post.
Players will encounter variations of well-known characters, including a distinct Scorpion, as the plot unfolds with various forces from opposing realms striving to conquer each other. Invaders present unique challenges and unlockables, and this mode appears to be a continuous feature “throughout the game’s lifespan.”

As players defeat foes (with random encounters and key interactions), new regions open up, introducing role-playing mechanics such as level-ups, loot collection, and more. The accompanying GIFs showcase various statistics, equippable gear like talismans and relics, and even the Feral Royal figure, possibly portraying Kitana in an alternate dimension.
Exploring other realms will reward players with in-game currency, concept art, and other “goodies” that can be utilized in other game modes (potentially including new clothing options). Additionally, long-awaited mini-games like “Test Your Might” and “Arcade Towers” are making their return.
On September 19, Mortal Kombat 1 will become available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
