Little Nightmares 3: Exclusively Offers Online Co-Op Play.

Little Nightmares fans were thrilled at Gamescom with the announcement of the third installment in the series, and this time, it brings a new developer to the table – Supermassive Games. One of the standout features in Little Nightmares 3 is the introduction of co-op gameplay, but there’s a catch – it’s exclusively available online.

While the decision may disappoint fans hoping for local couch co-op, Supermassive Games clarified that this choice was made to maintain the game’s eerie and immersive atmosphere.

The development team believes that having two players in the same room might detract from the game’s overall tension and atmosphere. Online co-op, on the other hand, allows players to team up without compromising the game’s intended experience.

Game director Wayne Garland explained their decision in an interview with GamesRadar, stating, “Couch [co-op] is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we’re trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.”

While playing alongside a friend in person may not be an option, players can still engage in cooperative gameplay with another human player online. Additionally, for those who prefer to go solo or don’t have someone to play with, AI-controlled characters will also be available, each with unique mechanics to enhance the gaming experience.

Little Nightmares 3 is scheduled to launch in 2024 on multiple platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With Supermassive Games taking the reins, fans can look forward to a fresh perspective on the series while preserving the unsettling ambiance that has become a hallmark of Little Nightmares games.
