Despite the closure of developer Volition after 30 years in the industry, its publisher Deep Silver has reassured fans that franchises like Saints Row and Red Faction will continue to exist.
Deep Silver expressed gratitude for Volition’s work on these franchises and mentioned that the IPs will persist under Plaion, hinting at the possibility of more games being developed by other studios within the Deep Silver umbrella.

Volition, in its farewell statement, acknowledged the support and feedback from fans throughout its three-decade journey.
The developer admitted that while some players loved their games, others were disappointed at times, but the dedication of the fanbase was the driving force behind their game development.

Deep Silver acquired Volition in 2013 after THQ, the studio’s previous publisher, filed for bankruptcy and sold off its developers. Saints Row: The Third was the last game released under THQ, and Saints Row 4’s development largely occurred during the THQ era.

In recent years, Volition released a reboot of Saints Row, which received mixed reviews. Before that, the studio worked on the spin-off title Agents of Mayhem, which had disappointing sales figures.

Volition’s closure came as part of Embracer Group’s “restructuring program” after the parent company, Koch Media (now Plaion), was acquired by Embracer Group in 2018. This decision has been met with criticism, particularly due to the layoffs occurring at another Embracer Group subsidiary, Gearbox Publishing.

Despite Volition’s closure, fans can take solace in the fact that their beloved franchises will continue, albeit under different studios, as Deep Silver plans to keep these IPs alive.
