Renowned manga creator Tadashi Agi recently announced on Twitter that the highly-anticipated sequel to the beloved Drops of God manga, titled “Kami no Shizuku deuxième” (Drops of God Second), will comprise just two volumes.

The manga is set to make its debut in the 43rd issue of Kodansha’s Morning magazine, scheduled for release this Thursday. This installment picks up after the intense showdown between Shizuku and Tomine, following Shizuku’s global travels that eventually lead him to Paris, where he encounters a girl with an extraordinary sense of smell.
Siblings Shin and Yuko Kibayashi, known collectively as Tadashi Agi, initially launched The Drops of God manga in 2004 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine, collaborating with artist Okimoto. The manga gained widespread popularity and was even adapted into a live-action series in Japan in 2009. The original manga series concluded in June 2014, with the final compiled volume, the 44th in the series, released in July 2014. Comixology and Kodansha USA Publishing subsequently made the manga available in digital English editions.
The manga’s narrative revolves around a young man who discovers, upon his father’s passing, that his father had adopted another man. To inherit his father’s vast wine collection, the two must engage in a competition to identify 13 wines.
Following the original series, a “final” series titled “Marriage: Kami no Shizuku Saishūshō” (Drops of God: Mariage) began in May 2015 and concluded in October 2020. Kodansha USA Publishing also released “Drops of God: Mariage” in English digitally. The overall franchise boasts over 5 million copies in circulation worldwide.

Notably, the manga’s serialized storylines had a significant impact on the sales of the wines featured within its pages. In 2010, the French wine magazine La Revue du vin de France honored the manga with its top award. The New York Times even featured the manga in its Dining and Wine section in 2008.
The manga also inspired an internationally co-produced, multilingual live-action television series, which premiered on Apple TV+ on April 21. Subsequently, the series became available for streaming on Hulu in Japan starting September 15.”
