In the Pokémon world of Paldea, trainers are eager to reunite with some old favorites: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, as they make their return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask expansion. While Paldea offers an array of new Pokémon, these Sinnoh starters hold a special place in players’ hearts.

Obtaining these beloved starters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a unique challenge, as they cannot be captured in the base game or the DLC. To embark on this quest, players must head to Kitakami and speak with Professor Jacq, who will contact them at the beginning of The Teal Mask expansion, inviting them to return to campus. However, Jacq’s true intentions become clear when players arrive in Kitakami.

As the main quest in The Teal Mask unfolds, players are granted freedom to explore the new region. To locate Professor Jacq, head east of Mossui Town, where he stands beneath a prominent tree. When approached, Jacq presents a mystery Pokémon egg, containing either Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. To ensure they get their preferred Pokémon, players should save their game before speaking with Jacq.

The egg can be added to their party or sent to the boxes. Pokémon eggs hatch by walking a certain number of steps while they are in the party, typically taking around five minutes. Once hatched, players will have a Level 1 Sinnoh starter, which can be leveled up quickly by using EXP Sharing as they progress through The Teal Mask.

This mystery egg is the sole method to acquire Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup in-game. To obtain all three, players must utilize another Pokémon game like Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl or Legends of Arceus and transfer them via the Pokémon Home app.
