Fans of the long-running boxing saga “Hajime no Ippo” by George Morikawa have a reason to celebrate as the manga is finally available in English. The first ten volumes, which cover Rounds 1-87, are now accessible through Kodansha’s K MANGA service. Moreover, fans can look forward to new chapters being released on a weekly basis.
“Hajime no Ippo” has been a staple in Weekly Shonen Magazine since 1989, and it explores the journey of Ippo Makunouchi, a high-school student who experiences frequent bullying. His life takes a dramatic turn when he crosses paths with the pro boxer Mamoru Takamura, resulting in Ippo’s latent boxing talent being awakened. Inspired by Takamura, Ippo sets out on a quest for strength, both inside and outside the boxing ring, with the dream of
joining the professional ranks.
The availability of the first ten volumes is just the beginning, as “Hajime no Ippo” has been collected in a staggering 138 volumes and continues to captivate readers. This English release opens up the world of Ippo Makunouchi’s boxing journey to a wider audience, allowing fans to follow his path to becoming a true boxing champion.
