A lost Pokémon game, “Pokémon Adventure 2000,” has resurfaced on the internet and is now fully playable, giving fans a chance to experience a piece of Pokémon history. This browser-based game was originally created by Cyberworld International and funded by Warner Brothers Pictures to promote the second Pokémon movie, “Pokémon The Movie 2000.”
The game gained massive popularity, amassing one million downloads in just one month. However, Nintendo issued a cease and desist order, as they believed Warner Brothers had violated their promotional contract by developing a full-fledged game.
Former Cyberworld developer Eddie Ruminski shed light on the circumstances, explaining that Nintendo hadn’t expected the promotional effort to result in a fully-fledged video game. Fortunately, Ruminski shared the lost game files with DidYouKnowGaming, who then made the game available online for fans to enjoy.
“Pokémon Adventure 2000” offers a unique gameplay experience, resembling classic Doom shooters with 3D levels populated by 2D sprites. Players utilize Pokémon’s special moves to solve environmental challenges, such as using a water-type move to extinguish a forest fire.
While the game offers about 10 minutes of gameplay, various difficulty options and Pokémon teams add some replayability. Fans interested in playing can find instructions on how to do so in DidYouKnowGaming’s YouTube video, along with archived concept art, music, and storyboards from the game.
