Final Fantasy 14 Players Analyze Mysterious Legs for Clues About Upcoming Playable Race

Players of Final Fantasy 14 have a time-honored tradition of speculating about what new features the next expansion will bring to their beloved MMO. One of the most anticipated aspects of any expansion is the introduction of new classes and playable races, which never fails to set both the Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft communities abuzz as they scrutinize every possible clue, whether real or imagined.

In the latest episode of this tradition, Final Fantasy 14 players are examining a pair of disembodied legs in hopes of uncovering hints about a new playable race that may be introduced in the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, slated for release next year. The prevailing theory is that these legs belong to a female version of the existing male Hrothgar race, known for their distinctive lion-like appearance.

Reddit user Drbiohazmat initiated the investigation by extracting the legs from a patch 6.5 cutscene. They noted a notable absence of a tail, as well as a generous covering of hair. Furthermore, the legs exhibited unique running and jumping animations that differed from those of the game’s other races. Another Reddit user, JustaPorgBoy, took their analysis a step further by examining the full skeleton of the legs. Their findings included objects resembling bones for a face, ears, and tail, which bore a striking resemblance to the male Hrothgar race.

The male Hrothgar race made its debut in the Shadowbringers expansion in 2019, alongside the introduction of female Viera (bunny girls). However, the Viera were granted a male version in the subsequent Endwalker expansion, leaving fans of the potential female Hrothgar eagerly anticipating their turn. Concept art for female Hrothgar was even discovered in 2021, fueling hopes that the leg analysis may be on the right track.

It’s important to note that past expansions have included cutscene teases that used existing models and animations, which were later replaced by entirely new ones. Therefore, the discovery of the disembodied legs does not guarantee the addition of a new playable race. The Final Fantasy 14 community may need to exercise patience and await official announcements, with the London Fan Fest scheduled for October 21 or the Dawntrail expansion release in Summer 2024 being potential opportunities for more information.
