As part of the Realms Deep livestream, 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks have unveiled the release date for Kingpin: Life of Crime’s remaster. Named Kingpin: Reloaded, it’s scheduled to launch on December 5, 2023.
Originally released in 1999 by Interplay, Kingpin: Life of Crime was developed by Xatrix Entertainment, known for titles like Redneck Rampage and Cyberia. While it didn’t receive the same level of attention as Half-Life, it introduced innovations such as side-quests, the Pawn-O-Matic shop system, and a skill system that allowed players to gradually improve their weapon accuracy.
The focus of the remaster appears to be on enhancing texture fidelity. The previously muddy and filtered textures have been revamped to look better at higher resolutions. Interestingly, the distinct wobble of 3D objects has been retained, adding a touch of nostalgia to the experience. For fans of this niche title, witnessing a game from the past receiving upgrades for modern systems is a welcome sight.

Mark your calendars for December 5, 2023, when Kingpin: Reloaded is set to release. It will be available exclusively on PC via Steam.
