Envision Entertainment has exciting news for fans of medieval-fantasy city builders. Pioneers of Pagonia is set to launch in Early Access on December 13, and to celebrate this announcement, they’ve released a free demo available on Steam right now. In this demo, players can immerse themselves in building a bustling medieval community with thousands of inhabitants. The demo is thoughtfully localized in multiple languages, including German, English, Spanish, French, and Polish.

For enthusiasts of city-building games, this release is particularly noteworthy as Pioneers of Pagonia is considered a spiritual successor to The Settlers franchise by Ubisoft. Volker Wertich, the Creative Director of Pioneers of Pagonia, is the original creator of The Settlers game series. In the demo, players will have the opportunity to experience three different maps.
Volker Wertich expressed his gratitude for the positive reception of the game’s first alpha test within the gaming community. Players dedicated countless hours to experimenting with their settlements, even though the content was initially intended for a few hours of gameplay. Wertich conveyed his thanks to the community for their constructive feedback, emphasizing that it has been carefully evaluated and has already influenced further development. Some of the suggestions have been implemented directly into the current demo build, while others will be integrated during the Early Access phase.
While the demo offers an exciting glimpse into the game, it’s worth noting that certain features will be absent from it. Extended hotkeys, neutral factions, various enemy types, procedural map creation, and trade with other factions are among the features planned for the Early Access release but not included in the demo. Looking ahead, the roadmap for a Q1 2024 update to Pioneers of Pagonia promises even more exciting additions. This includes a co-op mode, expanded productivity display, subsurface mining, and fishing huts.
Pioneers of Pagonia is scheduled to launch in Early Access on PC via Steam on December 13, 2023, with a price tag of $29.99.
