Unauthorized Mods Surface Before Game’s Official Release, Prompting Nintendo’s Swift Action

Nintendo has swiftly taken action against leaked gameplay footage of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a game that has yet to be officially released. Among the leaked content were mod videos that showcased flowers in the game uttering profanities, causing a stir in the gaming community.
As reported by Eurogamer, a modder named ‘Contendo’ created a modification where flowers in the game verbally confront Mario and his companions with lines like “F*** you!”. The modder described the video as “funny,” but it was removed by Nintendo due to its explicit content.
Another modder, ‘teesam,’ designed an Undertale-inspired creation within the new game, featuring a flower on top exclaiming “SANS???” made out of blocks. The modder highlighted how Wonder’s format, similar to titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, made it “surprisingly easy” to create modifications.
While leaks of Switch games have become common, the rapid emergence of mods like these is a less frequent occurrence. Nintendo, known for its vigilance in protecting its intellectual property, swiftly acts against such content. In this case, the preemptive removal of mod videos can be attributed to Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s unreleased status.
Nintendo had previously disclosed options for players to mute the talking flowers in Super Mario Bros. Wonder if they prefer to silence their dialogues, allowing gamers to enjoy the game without unwanted chatter.
