The Legend of Zelda saga, which commenced with Breath of the Wild and continued through the spin-off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and sequel Tears of the Kingdom, appears to be reaching its conclusion. While Nintendo remains committed to open-world Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom illustrates the full spectrum of ideas explored in this particular Zelda world. Nevertheless, the possibility of a future trilogy shouldn’t be ruled out.

The Zelda franchise has a history of sequels using the same Link, demonstrated by Ocarina of Time leading into Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom carve a unique timeline chart, leaving ample room for further exploration.

Various loose ends, such as the origins of the Master Sword and the Zonai tribe, as well as recurring themes like the Goddess Hylia and Calamity Ganon, provide rich material for future installments.

Alternatively, a post-Tears of the Kingdom urban Zelda game could leverage the advanced technology introduced in Tears of the Kingdom, paving the way for a fresh narrative within the franchise’s beloved universe.
