Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man titles have been known for offering varying levels of challenge to cater to different player preferences. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues this tradition by providing four primary difficulty settings, allowing players to select their preferred level of challenge at the start of the game:

  1. Friendly Neighborhood: Designed for those who seek minimal combat challenges, players cannot be defeated in combat on this setting.
  2. Friendly: Ideal for players primarily interested in enjoying the story without overly challenging gameplay.
  3. Amazing: Offers a balanced combat experience, suiting a wide range of players.
  4. Spectacular: Geared towards those who relish more demanding combat scenarios, featuring stronger and more aggressive enemies.

One noteworthy feature is that players are not locked into their initial difficulty choice. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 allows gamers to adjust the difficulty settings at any time through the Settings menu in the following manner:

  1. Press the Options button on the DualSense controller.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Access the Gameplay section.
  4. In the Challenge Level section, players can easily switch between difficulty modes.

Each difficulty level impacts factors like enemy health, damage output, and enemy awareness. Furthermore, a fifth bonus difficulty mode, “Ultimate,” becomes available to expert players upon completing the main story. Importantly, choosing a difficulty does not impact trophy acquisition, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does not feature trophies linked to difficulty settings. This means players can pursue the coveted Platinum trophy without needing to tackle the game on its most challenging modes.
