During the New York Comic Con Dragon Ball panel, Toei Animation revealed its latest venture in the Dragon Ball universe: “Dragon Ball Daima”, set to debut in fall 2024. What makes this installment particularly special is the deep involvement of series creator Akira Toriyama, who has crafted entirely new episodes for the series.
The company showcased an announcement trailer, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.
The storyline of “Dragon Ball Daima” brings a fresh twist, presenting iconic characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma in their younger versions. This plot should not be confused with Dragon Ball GT’s storyline, where Goku transforms into a child after the original series ends. The term “Daima” doesn’t possess a direct translation, but its kanji suggests the concept of “Evil.”
For enthusiasts waiting for more details, Toei Animation promises further revelations during the next Dragon Ball games battle hour, scheduled for January 27-28.
Recalling the franchise’s history, “Dragon Ball Super” graced our screens between July 2015 and March 2018. Platforms such as Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the 131-episode series as it aired, with Funimation also offering home video formats.
The franchise also expanded to the big screen with “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”, which premiered in June 2022 in Japan and in August for US audiences. The film’s global reach was amplified by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures, presenting it in a whopping 29 subbed languages and 13 dubbed versions for worldwide theater screenings.
Akira Toriyama, deeply invested in “Dragon Ball Daima,” shared his enthusiasm with NYCC attendees. He detailed the intriguing plot where a mysterious conspiracy miniaturizes Goku and his allies, leading them into a new world teeming with intense action and grand adventures. Highlighting his exhaustive role in shaping the story, character designs, and settings, Toriyama conveyed his hopes for the fans to relish the series’ innovative blend of high-octane and heartwarming battles.
