With Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s potential 2024 release, fans are anticipating a revealing showcase at The Game Awards, offering a glimpse into the game’s long-awaited world.

Fans of the Dragon Age series have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, especially after the intriguing setup provided by Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC. The game’s development journey has been far from smooth, with multiple design shifts and challenges. Originally conceived as a more narrative-focused project codenamed Joplin, it underwent a complete overhaul to become a live-service multiplayer game, only to later discard the multiplayer aspect. The development process also grappled with significant staff turnover and recent layoffs at BioWare.

Despite these hurdles, the development of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf continues. While not all updates have been necessarily positive, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. With a potential release in 2024, there is a strong likelihood that fans will get their first substantial look at Dragon Age: Dreadwolf during The Game Awards in 2023.

Dreadwolf’s Release Window Suggests a Game Awards Debut

Considering the lengthy development period, fans have seen relatively little of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. BioWare has not been entirely silent, having released several trailers and development updates. The studio even provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the game’s development during Gamescom 2020. However, EA and BioWare have yet to confirm the game’s release date.

A well-regarded industry insider, Jeff Grubb, hinted that the new game could launch in the summer of 2024. This information was shared back in June, so circumstances may have evolved since then. There’s also the possibility of future setbacks, as Grubb noted that BioWare was “targeting” summer 2024, leaving some uncertainty about the studio’s commitment to this timeline.

Nonetheless, the expectation of a 2024 release does not seem unreasonable. In October 2022, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf entered its Alpha stage, with BioWare’s General Manager, Gary McKay, indicating that the game was essentially feature-complete. Dragon Age: Inquisition had approximately 6–9 months between its Alpha phase and release, so a year and three-quarters should provide ample time.

If this release plan holds, it’s reasonable to assume that EA will want at least six months to promote the game before its launch. This means fans can anticipate a substantial reveal before the year’s end. In such a scenario, it’s highly likely that BioWare will showcase Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at The Game Awards in December 2023.

The Game Awards is a premier gaming event where developers often use the platform to unveil their upcoming titles. EA and BioWare have previously leveraged this event to showcase Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. In 2018, the game was initially announced, back when it was an untitled Dragon Age sequel. Two years later, the 2020 cinematic trailer made its debut at The Game Awards. This was followed by the In-Game Cinematic Trailer, released just three days before the 2022 Game Awards.

Considering this history, the signs point to EA and BioWare favoring The Game Awards for their reveals. With the rumored 2024 release window and the game’s advanced development stage, it’s highly probable that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will have a notable presence during this year’s Game Awards. While the specific content of the reveal remains uncertain, a gameplay trailer or an in-engine showcase may not be out of the question. At the very least, fans can anticipate a substantial teaser that provides a closer look at the game’s world.

To be clear, nothing is set in stone, and there’s a chance that The Game Awards may pass without any Dragon Age: Dreadwolf revelations. Nonetheless, Dragon Age enthusiasts have every reason to be optimistic about this year’s Game Awards.
