On November 9, 2023, the official website of Urusei Yatsura season 2 made an exciting announcement, revealing that Nobunaga Shimazaki, known for voicing Seishiro Nagi in Blue Lock, would be joining the cast. Additionally, two more talented actors, Motoko Kumai and Manaka Iwami, were unveiled as part of the series’ second half, enhancing the starpower of the cast.

Each new cast member has been assigned specific roles, and the official website treated fans to unique character visuals for Shingo (Nobunaga Shimazaki), Kokeru Moroboshi (Motoko Kumai), and Nozomi (Manaka Iwami).

Urusei Yatsura season 2 continues the 2022 readaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s original manga, originally serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine during the 1970s and 1980s. The manga has seen multiple adaptations, including anime films, OVAs, and television series.

The three new cast members, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Motoko Kumai, and Manaka Iwami, bring fresh energy to the series. The second half of the readaptation is scheduled to premiere in January 2024 and will be available for international streaming on HIDIVE. Although Japanese release details are pending, they are expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks leading to the release window.

Takahiro Kamei serves as the series director, while David Production handles the animation. Masaru Yokoyama is responsible for composing the music for the anime. The first half debuted in October 2022 on the Noitamania programming block on Fuji TV, with HIDIVE streaming the series weekly and later providing an English dub.

The anime’s first half ran for two cours, with the entire run spanning four cours, adapting selected stories from the original manga. It is worth noting that the anime will not run consecutively, with a break between the two halves.

Originally serialized from 1978 to 1987, the Urusei Yatsura manga was previously released overseas in English as Lum and The Return of Lum in the 1990s. The original television anime adaptation aired from 1981 to 1986.
