Navigate the challenge of Claymorton and his relentless bodyguards to secure the first star in Super Mario RPG.

After triumphing over Croco, the adventure in Super Mario RPG continues as players return to the Mushroom Kingdom. However, the peaceful atmosphere has been disrupted by Shy Guys on pogo sticks, setting the stage for the encounter with the formidable boss, Claymorton.

How to Overcome Claymorton:

Before facing Claymorton, ensure a well-stocked inventory. While recommended to have both Mario and Mallow at level five, conquering Claymorton at level four is plausible. When prepared, head to the throne room, where the battle unfolds against Claymorton and his bodyguards.

Claymorton’s bodyguards execute both a standard physical attack and a potent Hot Shot move. After defeating the initial set, a new quartet emerges a few turns later. Meanwhile, Claymorton launches a powerful jump attack and a long-range fire attack. Successful blocking can mitigate damage from these assaults.

As the battle progresses, Claymorton introduces Flame Wall, an unavoidable area-of-effect attack. While causing less damage than his single-target strikes, it demands strategic attention.

Tips for Success:

  1. Level Preparation: Aim for levels five or above, although victory at level four is plausible.
  2. Attack Weakness: Exploit Claymorton’s vulnerability to electricity by having Mallow consistently use Thunderbolt.
  3. Thunderbolt Strategy: Use Thunderbolt to deal substantial damage to Claymorton and concurrently damage all bodyguards, usually eliminating them in two rounds.
  4. Party Dynamics: While Mallow focuses on Thunderbolt, have Mario contribute to Claymorton’s damage or utilize items for Flower Points restoration.
  5. Aggressive Approach: Stay on the offensive, consistently damaging Claymorton to eventually emerge victorious.
