Culex, the formidable secret boss from the original game, makes a return in the Super Mario RPG Remake for the Switch. Renowned as one of the most challenging bosses, defeating Culex requires strategic planning. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to find and beat Culex in the remake.
Finding Culex:
- You can encounter Culex even before completing the main story, although it’s not recommended due to the boss’s difficulty.
- Head to Moleville, where an NPC offers to trade fireworks for a Shiny Stone, a key item needed to find Culex.
- Purchase fireworks from the mole inside the house next to the little girl in Moleville for 500 coins.
- Trade the fireworks for the Shiny Stone with the NPC outside the house.
- Take the Shiny Stone to the locked door in Monstro Tower to unlock it and initiate the battle with Culex’s first form.
Unlocking Rematch Culex 3D:
- Complete the main game.
- Visit Marrymore Inn and use the free voucher for a night in the suite.
- Head to Star Hill and find one of the new pink stars.
- Go to Tadpole Pond and talk to Frog Sage, who will ask you to revisit Belome Temple and fight Belome again.
- After defeating Belome, Frog Sage will task you with rematching other bosses, eventually granting the Super Shiny Stone.
- Use the Super Shiny Stone to unlock the Monstro Town door and access the rematch with Culex 3D.
Beating Culex:
- Culex has the highest HP in the game and uses powerful magic attacks, so approach the battle with caution.
- Prioritize having Peach in your party, equipped with Lazy Shell Armour for survival, revival, and healing magic.
- Focus on defeating each Crystal first, as they have 2,000 HP each, limiting Culex’s attacks.
- In the second phase, Culex will unleash potent magic attacks, so always keep someone in reserve and maintain a full inventory of revive items.
Follow these strategies to conquer the challenging Culex in the Super Mario RPG Remake and emerge victorious in this epic battle.
