A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player encounters an eerie bug, transforming The Teal Mask character into an unexpected and unwelcome companion throughout the game.

Ever since the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players have shared their fair share of peculiar bugs and glitches online, and one user’s experience with The Teal Mask DLC pack has taken an unsettling turn. Despite several patches addressing common technical issues, the latest DLC seems to introduce a new set of bugs, adding an eerie layer to the ongoing narrative of the game’s post-release period.
From T-posing NPCs to sudden player model transformations, the Gen 9 Pokemon games have been no stranger to bugs, often contributing to the ongoing conversation around the game’s initial release challenges. While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may still face critiques for graphics and other imperfections, the bugs encountered tend to be more on the amusing side, with major game issues remaining relatively rare. However, the recent release of the first DLC pack, “Hidden Treasures of Area Zero,” has ushered in new locations and customization options.
Within the DLC, players receive fresh cosmetics, including a new outfit and hairstyle for the male protagonist upon venturing into the land of Kitakami. Yet, one player, identified as PittooPlays, has reported an uncanny bug where the default male protagonist, sporting The Teal Mask, persistently appears in doorways throughout the region. This haunting presence, captured in in-game footage shared online, raises eyebrows and prompts speculation about the cause of this mysterious glitch.
While some fans have playfully suggested this eerie encounter could inspire a new Pokemon creepypasta, delving into the franchise’s tradition of spooky fanmade stories, the reality is a tad less supernatural. Unlike the chilling tales that emerged from Gen 1 Pokemon titles decades ago, this ghostly NPC is the result of another bug in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Whether this glitch will endure or reappear in the second part of the DLC, set for release on December 14, remains to be seen.
