Jared Neuss, executive producer of Overwatch 2, sheds light on Blizzard’s plans to address long standing issues with the game’s console versions.

Overwatch 2’s Executive Producer, Jared Neuss, recently shed light on forth coming changes aimed at rectifying persistent issues plaguing the console iterations of the game. Neuss’s remarks come after a period marked by complaints about Overwatch’s console performance, which many fans argue falls short compared to its PC counterpart.
One prevalent concern on consoles involves the use of XIM adapters, allow players to connect a mouse and keyboard to their Xbox or PlayStation, offering superior precision and maneuverability. Notably, Overwatch and Overwatch 2 currently lack XIM recognition, making it challenging to identify players using these peripherals, despite developers deeming it as an unfair advantage. Beyond the XIM issue, criticism has centered on subpar performance and user experience on console platforms.
Neuss address these concerns on the Group Up! podcast, unveiling upcoming solutions. He hinted at Blizzard’s ongoing efforts to detect XIM adapters but refrained from divulging specifics, aiming to prevent potential exploiters from gaining an edge. Neuss candidly acknowledged Overwatch 2’s console usability falling short of Blizzard’s desired standard, express the intent to elevate the gaming experience on consoles.

Speaking on Blizzard’s intentions for Overwatch 2 on consoles, Neuss emphasized,
“We know where the problems are. I think there are two big categories. One is, are people using devices like XIM, and how do we prevent that, and how do we make the game a great experience on console?”
This renewed focus on console players follows previous strides to foster inclusivity by involving console players in beta testing last year. Neuss’s acknowledgment of under serving the console demographic further reinforces Blizzard’s commitment to addressing these long standing concerns, offering a ray of hope to the Overwatch community on consoles.
Additionally, Blizzard’s proactive measures to tailor Overwatch 2 for consoles underscore the impact of console players on the game’s success. While Overwatch could have been confined to the PC market as a strategic hero shooter, the inclusion of console players significantly contributed to its success as one of Blizzard’s prominent IPs. Hence, prioritizing and supporting this player segment appears to be a strategic move to maintain the game’s widespread influence.
