Valve’s Recent Beta Client Upgrade Empowers Users with Game Privacy Options and Improved Shopping Cart Features

Approaching the holiday season, Valve introduces a beta update for the Steam client, refining shopping carts and privacy options. This beta release, aimed at grant users more control and convenience, introduces a set of features allow players to label games as private and offering expand options for gifting games to friends.
Valve’s latest beta build presents a long awaited feature, allowing users to designate certain games in their libraries as private. While Steam has undergone numerous updates and transformations since its inception in 2003, the ability to hide games from view until now remained absent. While in beta and subject to potential changes, users can actively test and give feedback on this feature’s functionality.
To engage in this privacy feature, Steam users need to opt into the beta client. This process involves accessing the Settings menu, selecting Interface, and enabling the Steam Beta Update option from the dropdown menu. Upon updating (approximately 88 MB), users can mark selected games as private, concealing them from other Steam users, including friends, and keeping achievements and playtime data hidden. This privacy mark is adjustable and can be applied to multiple games and applications within the Steam library.
Additionally, the beta client introduces significant improvements to the shopping cart functionality. Users can now purchase gifts for multiple friends and themselves in a single transaction, streamlining the process significantly. The update focuses on improving gifting experiences, especially for multiplayer titles like Lethal Company, to enhance convenience for holiday gaming.

Key Shopping Cart Enhancements in the Beta (December 20, 2023):
- Inline gifting: Simplifies gift purchases for multiple friends and oneself in a single transaction, with a streamlined messaging system for faster checkout.
- One cart across devices: Enables the shopping cart’s accessibility across all signed-in devices, enhancing continuity in the shopping experience (currently limited to the beta client).
- Private purchasing: Offers the option to designate a game as private before the checkout process begins, initiating privacy measures from the outset.
With the Steam Winter Sale approaching and more planned for 2024, these updates signify Valve’s commitment to meeting user expectations. The community anticipates further feature additions and developments in the future.
