On February 14, 2024, TOHO, the renowned entertainment company, thrilled Detective Conan enthusiasts by releasing a captivating new trailer for the franchise’s 27th movie. Titled “Detective Conan: Hyakuman Doru no Michisirube” (Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Five Guiding Stars), this highly anticipated anime film is poised to hit Japanese theaters on April 12, 2024.

Unveiling the Intrigue
The promotional video not only gave viewers a sneak peek into the upcoming movie but also revealed the theme song, “Soshi Soai” (Mutual Love), performed by the talented artist AIKO. AIKO, known for contributing to the theme song of the widely beloved A Silent Voice anime film, will bring her musical prowess to enhance the Detective Conan legacy.
This release follows closely on the heels of another successful theatrical launch earlier in the year, featuring a compilation film titled “Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief,” which graced Japanese theaters on January 5.
The franchise has meticulously maintained its tradition of unveiling a new anime film almost every April since 1997, with a notable exception in April 2020 due to the global pandemic’s impact.
Stepping into the Spotlight
The upcoming Detective Conan film faces the challenge of living up to the extraordinary success of its predecessor, “Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine” (Iron Submarine). This 26th installment achieved a record-breaking three-day opening, selling 2.17 million tickets and earning 3.14 billion yen (approximately $23.4 million USD). By June 2023, it had soared to new heights, selling around 9.26 million tickets and accumulating 13.12 billion yen (about $91.7 million USD). Currently, it holds the 19th spot among the highest-earning films of all time in Japan, second only to The Super Mario Bros. Movie for films released in Japan in that year.
Gosho Aoyama’s original Detective Conan manga series, which embarked on its serialization journey in 1994 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, continues to captivate readers. In addition to the film franchise, this iconic manga has inspired a long-running television anime adaptation since 1996, solidifying its place in anime history.
As the Detective Conan 27th movie approaches, anime enthusiasts eagerly anticipate its release, marking another milestone in the enduring legacy of this beloved franchise.
