The original Red Dead Redemption, long-requested by fans for a PC release, might be closer to becoming a reality. Recent updates to the game’s PlayStation Store description suggest that a PC version could be on the way.
Since its 2010 release, Red Dead Redemption has been available exclusively on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar Games later released the game for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in August 2023. Despite its success on the PlayStation Network chart, the port faced criticism from fans who were disappointed with the lack of new content and the $50 price tag, feeling it was a missed opportunity for a remaster.
Now, a new development hints at a potential PC release. The updated PlayStation Store description for Red Dead Redemption refers to a PC version, stating that the game is “now on PC for the first time ever.” This information is curious, given that there is no current PC listing, and the mention of a PC port was not present in earlier archived descriptions from April 2024.
The description also suggests that the PC version would include upgrades from the 2023 console release, such as enhanced resolutions, higher framerates, multi-display support, and spatial surround sound. Additionally, it hints that the PC port might feature the Undead Nightmare DLC, which was a popular addition at the time of the original release.
While there’s no native current-gen version available for purchase, the game supports 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 following a surprise update in October 2023. This update did not extend to a native PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S version, further fueling speculation and disappointment among fans.
As Rockstar Games focuses on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a current-gen remaster of Red Dead Redemption seems unlikely. However, if the PC port is confirmed, the modding community may enhance the game beyond a simple port, potentially delivering a refreshed experience for long-time fans.
