The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter/X account announced on Friday that Sonic Generations has been delisted as a standalone title ahead of the release of the new Sonic X Shadow Generations game. Despite the Sega Sonic Generations delisting, the game will still be available on the Steam store and Xbox store as part of game bundles. Players who already own the game will retain access, and Sonic Generations mods for the Steam version will remain unaffected.

Sonic X Shadow Generations, set to launch on October 25, will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Those who pre-order the game will receive the Sonic Adventure Legacy Skin, while those opting for the Digital Deluxe Edition can start playing three days early on October 22.
This new game features a collection of remastered and expanded iconic 2D and 3D levels from Sonic Generations 2011 release, along with a brand-new campaign allowing players to experience the game as Shadow the Hedgehog in a standalone campaign.
Originally released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to celebrate Sonic’s 20th anniversary, Sonic Generations was later made available on PC and the Nintendo 3DS. This Sonic Generations delisting marks a significant moment as Sega prepares to introduce the next chapter in the Sonic franchise with the highly anticipated Sonic X Shadow Generations game in 2024.
