The Expanded and Enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto Online, now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, introduces new features, including wildlife. The Chop Shop update has brought an animal photography challenge, where cats occasionally appear on the list of required wildlife. This guide will help you start the animal photography challenge and locate cats in GTA Online.
How to Start the Animal Photography Challenge
The Los Santos Tourist Board manages the animal photography challenge. You can find it in person on the western highway between Paleto Bay and Los Santos. Look for a purple camera icon on your map to locate the board. Approach it and press right on the D-Pad to view the day’s list of three animals.
Alternatively, you can receive a notification via email on your phone when you enter a multiplayer free-roam session. Open the email to see the list of animals you need to photograph. Successfully photographing one animal earns you $20,000, while completing all three animals in a day nets you $40,000. Special weekends and holiday events might double these rewards.
Photographing an animal for the first time also unlocks the Park Ranger SUV for sale on the Warstock Cache and Carry website. Capture three different animals to unlock a unique outfit.
Where to Find Cats in GTA Online

Cats are among the more common wildlife in GTA Online, frequently appearing in neighborhoods across Los Santos and Blaine County. They are active only during the daytime and avoid rain.
One of the most reliable locations to find cats is Sandy Shores. Check the alleyway to the right of the store entrance; cats are often perched on walls or found in the alley. If you don’t spot them there, they might be sleeping across the street.
Keep in mind that cats may run away if you get too close or disturb them. Use your phone to take a clear photo of a cat to complete the challenge and earn your reward.
