New Trailer and Visual Released for Mystery Anime SHOSHIMIN: Summer Arrives

New Trailer and Visual Released for Mystery Anime SHOSHIMIN

A third SHOSHIMIN anime trailer and a new visual have been released for the mystery anime SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary, promoting the upcoming Summer Exclusive Tropical Parfait Case. The visual showcases main characters Jogoro Kobato and Yuki Osanai escaping the summer heat in a cozy, wood-accented café, where they are served massive parfaits. The trailer, meanwhile, highlights a festival scene where Yuki wears a fox mask and ends with her realizing she forgot to pick up some dagashi, a type of traditional Japanese snack.

SHOSHIMIN started airing in Japan on July 6 (effectively July 7 at 1:30 AM JST) and is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Ani-One Asia. Crunchyroll describes the anime’s plot as centering around Kobato, who, after a difficult experience known as “wisdom work,” resolves to live a simple, honest life. He teams up with his classmate Osanai, who shares the same goal. However, despite their best efforts, strange events and disasters continue to unfold around them, making their quest for an ordinary, peaceful life increasingly challenging.

The anime is based on the SHOSHIMIN series by Honobu Yonezawa, known for Hyouka. The series, published under Tokyo Sogensha Sougen’s Suiri Bunko, consists of four main volumes released between 2004 and 2009. A short story collection followed in 2020, and a new novel was published in April 2024. The first two books have also inspired a SHOSHIMIN manga adaptation.
