Kenshi Yonezu Launches Anime Music Video “Donut Hole 2024” by

Kenshi Yonezu has released a new anime music video for his song “Donut Hole,” originally debuted in 2013 as Hachi. This updated version builds on the initial music video, which featured Yonezu’s shonen manga-inspired illustrations of vocaloid characters GUMI, Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, and Kagamine Rin. In the new video, the four vocaloid characters battle armed forces from the wealthier section of their city, all in pursuit of a mysterious black creature.

Produced by Production I.G, the music video is directed and storyboarded by Yuki Kamiya, known for his work on Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. Kamiya also handled compositing, editing, and 2D design for the project. The production team includes notable talents like Tetsuya Masuda as mechanical designer, Takahiro Chiba as animation director, and Sayoko Noda as color designer.

Yonezu shared that the idea for the new video emerged from discussions with the chocolate brand GODIVA about launching Donut Hole-themed products. The GODIVA X HACHI Donut Hole Collection will be available from October 1 to November 31, offering a range of chocolates priced from 1,026 yen (~$7.24) for a two-piece box to 4,320 yen (~$30.49) for a ten-piece box, all including tax. Some chocolates feature illustrations of the four vocaloids, with gift bags available for 264 yen (~$1.86).
