Kowloon Generic Romance to have a TV anime and a live-action film

A TV anime series and a live-action film adaptation of Jun Mayuzuki’s sci-fi romance manga, Kowloon Generic Romance, have been announced for 2025. Alongside the announcements, a brief 32-second promotional video was released, confirming both adaptations and featuring the characters narrating the same lines.

In the anime adaptation, Haruka Shiraishi will voice the main heroine, Reiko Kujirai, while Tomokazu Sugita will lend his voice to Hajime Kudou.

Originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine on November 7, 2019, Kowloon Generic Romance has released nine tankobon volumes as of October 2023, with the 10th volume set to launch on October 18, 2024. The manga is published in English by Yen Press, which describes its storyline as follows:

Welcome to Kowloon Walled City, a dystopian town where nostalgia abounds, and the past, present, and future converge. Amid the hidden emotions and extraordinary lives of those working within its confines, a romance begins to blossom for real estate agent Reiko Kujirai—one that feels as familiar as Kowloon itself.
