As fans eagerly await the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) in Fall 2025, a group of GTA 5 modders has taken matters into their own hands to give players a taste of what the highly anticipated game’s map could look like. Utilizing Rockstar’s 11-year-old GTA 5 engine, these modders have recreated a portion of the GTA 6 map, offering a glimpse at what could be one of the largest open-world environments in gaming history.
The GTA 6 map has long been the subject of speculation, especially after Rockstar’s teaser trailer in 2023 and a major leak in 2022. Building on these clues, modders have crafted what they believe is an accurate representation of the game’s world, set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes elements inspired by the neon-lit streets of Vice City.
YouTuber Dark Space, known for their modding expertise, has led the charge, focusing on recreating Vice Beach—one of the prominent locations featured in the GTA 6 trailer. The mod showcases iconic real-life Miami buildings that can be spotted in the official footage, giving fans a closer look at the game’s potential visual style. While the mod only represents a small fraction of the total map, it provides a thrilling preview of what’s to come.
In their latest video, Dark Space also compared the size of GTA 6’s map to that of GTA 5. By flying a helicopter from the southernmost point of Los Santos to the northernmost point in GTA 5, the modder demonstrates it takes about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. In contrast, traversing the recreated Leonida state in GTA 6 took 6 minutes and 10 seconds, offering a striking indication of the map’s considerable expansion.
Though this mod provides an exciting glimpse, it’s crucial to remember that Rockstar has only officially revealed limited details about GTA 6‘s map, mainly through the first trailer. Therefore, while Dark Space’s recreation is a fascinating insight, it may not be entirely reflective of the final version of the game. Still, it offers the community a thrilling idea of what to expect when the full release finally arrives.
Fans are anxiously awaiting further announcements, with Rockstar remaining tight-lipped since the initial trailer. As GTA 6 continues to build anticipation, it’s clear that the map will be a significant step forward for the franchise, delivering an expansive and immersive world filled with the chaos and excitement that Grand Theft Auto is known for.
