Epic Games has introduced a significant new feature to Fortnite’s Ballistic mode — the option for players to surrender mid-match. This addition aims to address concerns about unbalanced gameplay, especially in lopsided matches where recovery feels impossible. To activate the surrender option, all team members must vote unanimously, ensuring that a few frustrated players can’t force an early exit for the entire team.
Ballistic mode, a first-person, team-based shooter where players alternate between attacking and defending, launched in early access in December 2024. Since then, Epic Games has continued to expand the mode with new content. However, matchmaking has drawn criticism, with many players citing uneven team strengths that diminish the overall experience. The new surrender feature could help mitigate frustration in such cases.
Alongside gameplay updates, Fortnite is currently hosting its Galactic Battle mini-season, which introduces iconic Star Wars characters such as Mace Windu, Emperor Palpatine, and Jar Jar Binks. In a surprise move, Epic also added an AI-controlled Darth Vader who can now join players’ squads. Despite initial issues—like Vader using inappropriate language—the developers have smoothed out most bugs, and players are now enjoying his full in-game conversations.
Epic has also introduced “shell maps” in Ballistic mode. These are unfinished maps designed to collect player feedback before finalizing them. Developers explained that this approach makes it easier to implement changes, compared to modifying fully completed maps.
Meanwhile, Epic continues efforts to bring Fortnite back to Apple’s iOS platform. After submitting the game for approval, the company claimed Apple blocked it, leaving iOS users worldwide without access. Despite this setback, the community remains optimistic about the game’s evolving future.
