New Nintendo Switch 2 demo trailer shows mini games and features

Nintendo has released a new trailer for the upcoming Switch 2 Welcome Tour, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. Launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, the Welcome Tour includes 20 mini games and 14 tech demos designed to showcase the console’s new features.

The mini games cover a variety of genres. Highlights include a survival game where players dodge spiked balls in a spaceship, a memory tile-matching challenge, a first-person balloon-popping shooter, and a driving game that responds to Joycon tilting, allowing the car to balance on two wheels.

On the tech demo side, users can see a side-by-side comparison of 20fps vs. 120fps as a football moves across the screen. Another demo lets players switch between resolutions to witness visual quality changes instantly. One quirky demo even turns the Joycon into a macarena shaker, helping players feel the motors’ vibration feedback under various settings.

Additionally, the game includes a built-in quiz that tests players on the new hardware and software features, offering a more interactive way to learn about the console than reading a manual.

Despite its impressive feature set, some fans question why the Welcome Tour isn’t bundled with the console, especially since Astro’s Playroom came free with the PlayStation 5. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé even referenced Wii Sports, which was free with the Wii. However, Nintendo has defended the £7.99/$10 price tag, citing the effort and polish behind the product.

Ultimately, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour aims to serve as an engaging introduction to the system, helping users explore its capabilities through fun, hands-on experiences.
