Embracer Group is expecting increased sales as the zombie action role-playing game launches on a different platform sometime in the coming year.
After nearly ten years of delays, Dead Island 2 finally earned critical and financial acclaim upon its release earlier this year. The action role-playing game has sold more than 2 million copies globally as of May. Embracer Group, Deep Silver’s parent company, expects sales to surge next year with the game’s platform expansion.
Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, confirmed the same during the company’s most recent quarterly earnings call (via VGC). He noted that Dead Island 2 has continued to meet expectations in the months since its release. He mentioned a forthcoming release on a new platform, expecting it to significantly boost the game’s sales.

“I think Dead Island had a really strong release window, and then we have been seeing more normal performance, according to expectations,” said Wingefors. We expect marketing and especially new content to drive sales, with a substantial release planned this year.
Interestingly, Wingefors didn’t specify which platform the game would be released on in the following year, leading to some speculation, as you might expect. Recent rumors suggest the successor to the Nintendo Switch will debut in the second half of 2024. Could Dead Island 2 be available on the Nintendo platform shortly after the launch of the Switch’s successor?
Currently, Dead Island 2 is available for download on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Expansion starts in Q4 this year, with the second phase scheduled for Q2 of 2024.
