Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Team Sonic, has reached a major milestone by receiving its first age rating. Issued by the Australian Classification Board in May 2025, the game has been rated PG (Parental Guidance) due to in-game purchases, mild gambling themes, and online chat support. This development suggests that the game is progressing steadily and remains on track for its originally targeted 2025 release window.
The game was officially announced at The Game Awards in December 2024, with new gameplay revealed during Sony’s February 2025 State of Play. While Sega has yet to confirm an exact release date, the issuance of an age rating typically indicates that launch preparations are underway. In recent cases, Sega games such as Sonic X Shadow Generations were released about six months after receiving their classification.
While Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds hasn’t yet been rated by other major regulatory boards like PEGI, ESRB, or GRAC, the Australian rating is a strong sign that more announcements are imminent. Many fans now expect the official release date to be revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, taking place on June 7. Sega, a consistent participant in the event, previously used SGF 2024 to announce the release date for Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Given that we’re already mid-year and no release date has been confirmed, a holiday season launch—between October and early November—seems likely. This timeline would provide enough room for pre-orders and promotional buildup. It’s also expected that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be one of the last cross-gen Sonic titles, available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, alongside current-gen platforms.
