The Xbox Series S Now Comes in Carbon Black with 1TB Storage

Microsoft has introduced a new version of its digital-only Xbox Series S console, available in a sleek “Carbon Black” color and boasting a significantly larger storage capacity of 1TB, compared to the standard 512GB found in previous models.

Priced at $350, the console comes with a matching matte finish akin to the more expensive Series X and includes an official Xbox Wireless Controller. Following its initial tease at the Summer Games Fest in June, this new console is now accessible through various physical and digital retailers.

The standout feature of this release is the substantial increase in hard drive space. As the Series S exclusively supports digital media, the hard drive becomes the primary storage option. Previous iterations were limited to 512GB, often leaving users struggling to manage space. With this upgrade, players can comfortably store seven to eight high-profile games, along with numerous smaller indie titles, without immediately needing to delete older games or resort to external drives.

Furthermore, the latest Series S refresh showcases a commitment to sustainability, incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins into many of its components. This eco-friendly design aligns with trends initiated in 2021 with earlier Series S consoles.

For consumers navigating Microsoft’s complex naming conventions, it’s essential to understand that the Series S is a next-gen console, like the Series X. However, the Series S is the more budget-friendly counterpart, lacking a dedicated disc drive and targeting lower resolutions of 1080p or 1440p. In contrast, the Series X, priced at $500, is geared towards 4K gaming.

This latest addition to the Xbox family offers gamers an affordable option with increased storage capacity, making it an appealing choice for those prioritizing digital gaming convenience and a budget-friendly price point.
