A recent job posting by Obsidian Entertainment has sparked rumors and speculation among fans of “The Outer Worlds 2.” The game was first announced at E3 2021, and since then, there hasn’t been much information about it. However, this new job listing on Obsidian’s official website has led some to believe that “The Outer Worlds 2” might include multiplayer features.
The job posting, which was noticed by the team at Game Rant, is for a senior network programmer. What caught the attention of fans is that the listing mentions “multiplayer gameplay” multiple times. This has raised hopes that multiplayer functionality could be added to “The Outer Worlds 2.”
It’s worth noting that this job posting could also be related to another project in development at Obsidian. However, what makes it particularly interesting is that it specifically mentions familiarity with Unreal Engine, the engine that “The Outer Worlds 2” is expected to use. While this evidence is circumstantial, it has fueled speculation among fans.
As for the release date of “The Outer Worlds 2,” very little is known. Obsidian has been busy with other projects, including “Avowed,” which is slated for a 2024 release but lacks a firm date. It’s possible that “The Outer Worlds 2” won’t be released before “Avowed,” but only Obsidian has that information at this point.
“The Outer Worlds 2” is said to feature a “new star system” and “new crew,” signaling a fresh direction for the game. While the gameplay may retain some elements from the original, it appears that fans can expect a brand-new world to explore.
One question that remains unanswered is whether “The Outer Worlds 2” will be available on PlayStation 5. Obsidian was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, making the game available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
While this might suggest it won’t be on PlayStation, it’s worth noting that Microsoft hasn’t always made first-party multiplayer games exclusive in the past. However, until Obsidian or Microsoft provides an official announcement, it’s all speculation in the gaming community.
