The highly-anticipated two-part sequel film project for Haikyu!!, titled “Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen” (Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump), has just unveiled its trailer. This exciting reveal occurred during Haikyu!! Festa 2023, the perfect occasion to showcase new footage and information for eager fans.
According to the trailer, Susumu Mitsunaka is leading the project as the director and is also responsible for penning the script. Mitsunaka’s previous work includes directing both the first and third seasons of the Haikyu!! TV anime series.
Fans won’t have to wait too long to see the first movie, as it is scheduled to premiere on February 16, 2024. Unfortunately, the release date for the second movie has not been revealed yet.
News about this two-film project first surfaced in August 2022, generating immense excitement among the Haikyu!! fanbase.

The original Haikyu!! manga, created by Haruichi Furudate, is published by VIZ Media. The story kicks off with Shoyo Hinata, who, after losing his first and only volleyball match against Tobio Kageyama, vows to become his rival upon entering high school. However, fate has other plans, as Hinata ends up on the same team as Kageyama.
The Haikyu!! manga made its debut in 2011 and concluded nearly a decade later in 2020, spanning 45 volumes.
The manga’s first anime adaptation, produced by Production I.G., premiered in 2014, and it quickly gained popularity. Subsequent seasons followed annually until the fourth season, titled “Haikyu!! To The Top,” which aired in 2020. The second part of that season faced delays due to COVID-19 issues.
The Haikyu!! franchise has expanded beyond manga and anime, with compilation movies, stage plays, clay-animated shorts, and more.
As the release date of “Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump” draws near in 2024, fans are undoubtedly eager to dive back into the world of intense volleyball matches and the spirited rivalry between Hinata and Kageyama.
