In Baldur’s Gate 3’s challenging Act 2, a resourceful player has found a way to render one of the toughest bosses, Balthazar, powerless using an ingenious strategy.

Balthazar, Ketheric Thorm’s menacing aide, awaits players in the mausoleum area of Act 2. Engaging in combat with him can be a formidable task, as he is accompanied by swarms of skeletal warriors. However, this inventive player has discovered a method to disarm Balthazar long before the actual confrontation.
The clever strategy involves utilizing stealth to infiltrate Balthazar’s personal chambers before the Gauntlet of Shar event begins. During this covert operation, the player can discreetly place a Sussur Bloom plant from the Underdark among Balthazar’s possessions while pickpocketing him. This clever maneuver effectively prevents the villain from casting spells during the eventual showdown.
As a result, when the final battle against Balthazar arrives, he is rendered helpless due to the lingering effects of the Sussur Bloom, preventing him from unleashing his powerful array of spells. Balthazar possesses potent spells, including the hazardous area-of-effect Cloudkill spell, the damaging Bone Chill Cantrip, and the devastating Ray of Sickness. These spells make Balthazar a formidable foe, and disarming him with the Sussur Bloom significantly alters the dynamics of the battle.
While Balthazar remains a challenging adversary, especially with the skeletal warriors he summons to attack the player’s party, this innovative approach provides a unique solution for those seeking to gain an advantage in Baldur’s Gate 3’s demanding encounters.
