Squanch Games is gearing up to launch “High on Knife,” a horror-themed expansion for their comically absurd shooter game, “High on Life.” The expansion is scheduled to release on October 3.

While the “High on Life” DLC, “High on Knife,” was initially teased in June with a vague promise of “coming soon,” it’s surprising that the release date was announced just a week before the launch. Even more surprising is that Squanch Games appears undeterred by the crowded video game release schedule for October 2023.
This month is packed with major game launches, including titles like Alan Wake 2, Alone in the Dark, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Super Mario Bros Wonder, and Forza Motorsport, among others. Several games had even delayed their releases to avoid the October rush.
The announcement of the release date comes alongside a new trailer for the paid expansion. The trailer showcases the player character navigating a dark, eerie hallway filled with hidden horrors behind each door. Toward the end, a grotesque monster named “Ripsaur” is revealed, resembling a character from the Garbage Pail Kids card series. Ripsaur is part of a collection of monster cards that players can collect throughout the “High on Knife” expansion.
“High on Knife” is set two years after the events of “High on Life,” and it takes a darker, horror-oriented tone while retaining the game’s trademark humor and weirdness. Squanch Games CEO Mike Fridley described the update as “a little spooky” but not excessively terrifying, focusing more on body horror and unsettling imagery.
