Season 2 brings a fresh start as Season 1 characters bid farewell.

In just a dozen days, the advent of Diablo 4 Season 2, known as the Season of Blood, on October 17, will mark a new beginning for players with the retirement of their Season 1 characters.
Upon the commencement of Season 2, Season 1 characters will be transferred to the Eternal Realm, the domain of non-seasonal characters. All the accumulated gold, items, and crafting materials of these characters will accompany them to their new abode. Furthermore, any items previously stored in the character’s stash will be relocated to a withdraw-only chest accessible from the Eternal Realm. These items will remain stored until the conclusion of Season 2, which is expected to span roughly three months, after which they will be permanently deleted. Notably, any Malignant Hearts slotted into gear or stashed in inventory will be lost in this process.
Certain aspects of your characters will persist, though. Blizzard has announced that rewards obtained through renown will become permanent across all current and future characters. Players will no longer need to repeatedly seek out Altars of Lilith or complete sidequests. Additionally, if you have finished the prologue quest, you can now bypass the campaign on new characters.

Unlike Diablo 2 Resurrected, there is no option to transfer your character’s name and appearance back to the Seasonal Realm. Once your Season 1 character retires, they cannot return.
However, the quality of life improvements and class balance changes introduced in Season 2 will affect the Eternal Realm for those who are not ready to part with their characters. Only fresh Season 2 characters will have access to the new Vampiric Powers.
Here’s a summary of what will carry over from your Seasonal Realm characters to the Eternal Realm:
